    1. Thank you, Sunitha… Yes, from July hair is more prominently curly…. still need few more trims or have to go shorter to let the damaged ends to go………….

  1. I am gulping up all your blog posts since past three days in a desperate attempt to save my utterly damaged ]due to stress and having neglected them :(] curly hair. They are only shoulder length and rather fine (my hair grows REAl slow), but curly (I never comb them.) I cannot crack the second day or third day curls AT ALL unless I atleast wet them but my hair is tangled all the time except immediately after conditioning and I am losing copious amounts of hair. πŸ™

I think I should get a hair cut, go short like a curly bob and start a healthy easy to manage routine from your blog. What do you suggest? (Oh I use a silk pillow case and a scarf like you had advised me a few months ago but I had stopped intermittently). If you say “go for a hair cut and start afresh with your curlies,” I don’t know any stylist in Pune who knows to cut curly hair without combing/brushing them! Help help.

Hair was like this in Jan 2016:

And now it is lesser than this: πŸ™ πŸ™

I am not proud of not caring for my precious curls πŸ™ But please help me, will you?

    1. Hey hiii Swathi,,, I do remember telling you about using silk or satin pillowcases….long ago, I guess πŸ™‚
hmm your curls seem to have lost its soo much….. did u straighten or anything in between? or just pure negligence?? πŸ™

      Getting a hair cut is quite drastic…Frankly, going too short on hair should be really really be thought about and then done…. {personally I don’t like going short on my hair..if you see my hair pics, evennnn though I have long hair, I have not cut those damages stringy ends yet!! πŸ˜€ Well, then I keep to have ‘my’ hair longerrr….}

May be you should start on a healthy hair care immediately and then wait and decide?

For your hair, what I would suggest is to get on a regular DIY hair packs for deep conditioning and strengthening immediately…

      Deep Conditioning:
you can use any kitchen ingredient u feel is appropriate, blend and make a hair pack, : curd, milk, coconut milk, shea butter, ghee etc.

You can alternate between strengthening and conditioning packs. or like 2 weeks DC and 3rd week Strengthening and then back to 2 weeks of DC.
Within a month your hair would feel and look better… be consistent..

For day 2-3 hair, please go through this post:

What is your exact hair care regimen? would like to know how what and when you use so that it can be regulated to the benefit of your hair. are you CG or use sulfate-silicone regimen?

      1. Hi Divya,

I don’t know how I missed this detailed and helpful reply of yours. I got a haircut right after writing to you, in a desperate attempt to save the remaining hair. I started using a silk pillowcase and silk scarf last year itself after your suggestion. But yes my acute hair loss has been because of extreme stress, not oiling for months at a stretch, and also because of using excess sulfate, paraben containing conditioners I feel. I used to wash every second day using conditioners and then use a leave in conditioner as well and not rinse too well maybe. I have not combed my hair in the last 4 years. Been wearing it curly, but yes, not following a good routine as such. I also did not tie my hair in the night back then. And then I was experimenting with my diet, which further aggravated the hairfall and the dandruff I reckon. I am telling you all this so that you can help a rare weird case like me again. There is definite thinning of hair, but my hairfall has reduced drastically since past month and a half. Here is the routine that I follow now:

Oil hair with olive oil every three days. I wash with sulfate-containing shampoo because when I tried sulfate-free Wow organics with apple cider, it further aggravated the itching of the scalp and hair fall. Then I use loreal sulfate-free conditioner after wash. Then some sulfate-free leave in,
Alba Botanica Leave In Conditioner. I do not do co-washing. I am not going completely CG because I fear that I probably have a scalp infection and don’t want to aggravate that by using conditioner on my scalp. Can’t afford to visit a doc right now, so managing on my own, reading your blogs and going by my gut instincts.

On day 2 and day 3, I use the leave-in diluted in water and spray it on my hair using a spray bottle. I do this twice: once before leaving for work from home and then once after reaching work because my helmet flattens my thin hair completely. Dandruff and very thin volume is a problem that I am battling right now, but the hair fall is in control, with the regular oiling and gentle washing and less products. I am also taking zinc supplements.

Thanks a million for reading through this. I wanted to share this with you because, imagine, I lost so much hair despite following a curly routine for 4 years. All because I over used sulfate and paraben-containing products, wash every second day using conditioner, maybe didn’t rinse off the products well, and did not oil every week thinking my hair was luscious and gorgeous.

Thanks a ton for your time, attention and inputs, Divya. I will try your suggestions right away.
Keep up your brilliant helpful work for curlies! πŸ™‚
