DIY: Deep Conditioning Hair Pack – Go Bananas!!!

Are you feeling the need to deep condition your hair and are confused regarding what to use? Well, I was also at that point where I didn’t know what to use in my Deep Conditioning Hair Packs. Now I mix various ingredients from my kitchen plus few oils/essential oils and I am good to go. You can follow the same. In case you are still not sure regarding what to add and how much, you can follow these simple DIYs: Here, Here and Here. And I am going to mention another quickie below. Make sure you read through till the end..the Notes especially.

Here is another quick DIY hair mask recipe to make your hair lustrous, shiny, moisturized and soft!!

Ingredients:

  • Banana – 1
  • Curd – 1 Cup
  • Oil – 1 teaspoon (Add more if you have High Porosity Hair)
  • Essential Oil (optional) – Few drops

I used sweet almond oil (badam rogan) the edible type. Almond oil is light and ideal for low porosity hair.

Steps:

  • Blend all the ingredients together to make a smooth paste. Make sure the paste is not seedy or grainy.
  • Divide hair into sections.
  • Either apply the hair pack on freshly washed damn hair or spray water on each section till it is damn
  • Apply the hair pack evenly on each section of hair coating all strands properly
  • Wrap a plastic cover or a shower cap around your head.
  • If you have low porosity hair, wrap a warm towel around the shower cap.
  • Keep on for atleast 40 minutes
  • Wash with normal water
  • Follow up with your usual silicone-free conditioner, if required. I usually always do apply conditioner and leave-in a little.
  • Style as usual
  • Air dry or diffuse

Please do follow the below points:

  • Always make sure that the banana blends into a super smooth paste. If it is grainy or seedy, DO NOT apply on hair. It is a nightmare to remove those grains from hair. I am currently at my mom’s place. The bananas that were at home were different from the usual ones that I use. The blender was different, of course. And the paste was not smooth enough. After wasting about 3 bananas & 3 cups of curd, I thought, “Big deal….it will wash off……lemme just try on one section…” anddd.. ooohhhh boy!! It took forever to rinse off…that too when I did not let it dry and washed immediately.. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had let it dry. :p
  • This pack can be used as often as you like.
  • Even before each hair wash this hair pack can be applied to make hair well conditioned and to combat dryness.
  • Always cover with a shower cap or plastic sheet if you have low porosity hair

Few more recipes:

  • Curd – 1/2 cup

  2. Hi Divya,
I applied banana+curd+oil pack & had it on for quite a long time.I applied shampoo only to my scalp & used Loreal silk protein conditioner (silicone-free). I lost a lot of hair and it has become very wavy n fluffy. Not what I wanted it to turn out to be.

    1. Did hair become looser than usual!!! 😮 I have never had that issue!!!

did u follow up hair wash and conditioning with a hair gel??
      probably hair needed some hold?

  3. Hi Divya, I have dry.frizzy wavy hair. I have tried the DIY packs mentioned but nothing seems to work on my hair. Im using Amara Organix shampoo, conditioner and hair spa. I use the hair spa once a week and oil my hair/apply DIY mask on the other wash day in the week. Please let me know what method should I follow to get rid of frizzy hair and to control hairfall.

    1. Hey Rita,

Can you please share the pics of ingredients mentioned on these Amara Organix products? Have you tried other DIYs ? milk, curd, avocados, coconut milk, oils, eggs etc?

  4. Hi Divya!!!

I just came across this blog and loved the posts.
I’ve been following curly girl method since very long. And I used to deep condition my hair with my routine silicon free conditioner.

But when I saw this post about DIY banana deep condition mask, I thought of giving it a try and yeah I did.
And Guess what! I did the same mistake as you did, the banana blend which I used was not super smooth.. And that left me with small banana grains all over my curls. I had a tough time removing those tiny stuff*groans*

But nevertheless, I’m very satisfied with the results of the mask, My curls are super happy!

I just wanted you to know that this blog is of great help to Many Beautiful Curly Girls Out there..

    Thank you!!

  6. Hi Divya,

I just came across this site and love your posts and ideas 🙂
Can you suggest how often this hair pack should be applied. I am planning to start the curly girl method. As of now,I have very dry frizzy and non manageable curly hair. Type 3a/3b.

    1. Hi Gargi!!

Glad that you liked my site and posts!! 🙂

It is great that you are planning to start the curly girl method!!

Since you are new to this curly hair care and have dry and frizzy hair, you can use this hair pack once every week at the least! If possible, you can also apply this pack on every hair wash day. The more you deep condition, the better your curls will be and it will be easier to adapt to the new regimen and make your curly hair pop!! 🙂

      Hope it helps! 🙂

    1. Hey Tanuja!!

That’s great!! 🙂 Since the deep conditioning has helped, I wonder it was probably dryness rather than dandruff!! Anyhow, good that it has vanished now!! 👍👍

Thanks for letting us know!! :):)

      1. Hi divya,
I am planning to deep condition my hair this weekend but i’m confused, whether i should apply these mask before head wash or after head wash?

        1. Hey Mira…Good morning!!

DIY packs I usually apply before shampoo. Dampen hair and the apply the pack. To make sure there is no stickiness or residue left on hair. Especially while adding egg. While washing I wash the scalp properly but the lengths I don’t ‘shampoo’ full on.

But store bought hair masks I apply after shampoo.

          Happy deep conditioning! 🙂

Would love to hear from you. Please do leave a comment.
