Basics: When to Comb Curly or Wavy Hair?

Curly hair wide comb_Roots India_Curlacious

Helloooo curlies…so lets plunge into this simple and short topic!!   Does combing or brushing fit into curly or wavy hair care? Well, a brush doesn’t fit anywhere. Comb, yes it does! But only a wide tooth comb and only in the shower. Combing or brushing dry curly/wavy hair is a big no-no!!   When to use a comb in curly/wavy hair care: For curly or wavy hair, comb must be used only on wet hair. Combing dry curly or wavy hair makes it lose definition, puff up and become frizz. NEVER EVER comb dry hair. Vigorous brushing even causes hair breakage.   Uses of Wide Tooth Comb in curly/wavy hair care: Helps in detangling hair easily. (on wet or oiled hair…read more on how to detangle here.) Sometimes finger detangling hair is very very difficult and wide comb becomes a saviour in such cases!! Believe me…I have experienced this […]

Basics: How to Plop or Plunk?

Curlacious_How to Plop Hair

Hi curlies!! So, here is a quick pictorial tutorial on Plopping or Plunking for you. What is plopping or plunking? Plopping/Plunking is rolling or putting up your hair in a t-shirt or cotton cloth. Reasons to Plop/Plunk: cuts down the drying time enhances curl pattern and gives tighter curls (Wavy haired people will love it!) keeps hair frizz-free while drying prevents us from touching our hair while it dries. When to Plop? On freshly washed hair, after applying all leave-in and styling products, follow it with scrunching using a dry t-shirt….then take another dry t-shirt and plop your hair. How long to Plop? You can plop from 10 mins to as long as you want. Many people even plop overnight. How to Plop: (at the risk of looking funny and is a pictorial tutorial!!) Step 1: Spread a cotton t-shirt or microfibre towel on a flat surface like bed, stool, […]

Curls Clicked by Mom!!

I was spending few days at my brother’s place when I got these photos of my curls clicked by him(we all know how many Don’ts I had for those clicks). But another day, when I wanted to click pics, bro was not at home. So mom volunteered to give it a try. I put the cam on auto and quickly gave her instructions on how to click. So, here those are….these pics are older than the “Curls at Dusk”, so these too are before the BBlunt curly hair cut that I mentioned in this post. I am already due for another cut, I feel…few more of those ends need to go…. Anyway, here are the pics….Please be generous…since these are clicked by Mommy dearest.   Well, last is of course a selfie!! 🙂 Hope you liked the pics. My Curly Hair Styling Routine

Sharing my curly hair styling routine was long due. You won’t believe that these pics I had clicked in August last year….but I didn’t want to post coz my nail polish was chipped (lol!). I had thought that I would click another set of pics. But I never got around to clicking those. So, if you don’t mind the chipped nail polish, here is the basic routine. I use different products, but the styling routine is pretty much the same. I will also share few other routines or variations that I follow for styling..but then these pics took about 8 months to be up on the blog…so for the next set you can anticipate the expected time of that post!! LOL 😀   Anyway, let’s start…. In the shower, I used Giovanni Smooth as Silk Shampoo (it is sulfate-free) Loreal Smooth Intense Conditioner for detangling and as a rinse off […]

Basics: What is “Scrunch out the Crunch(SOTC)” and “Fluffing”? How to get volume once hair dries!

I hate the hard gel cast Gives a wet and weighed down look to my hair Kills my hair volume I don’t know what to do That is why I avoid gels You know the hard crunchy hold that strong hold gels give? *yuck* Many curlies hate that!! Well, know what? I personally like hard hold gels. The gel cast formed by such gels are so good for frizz control and retaining definition!! So, here is the routine that I follow: After my usual washing and  conditioning routine, I apply my styling products aka gels on soaking wet hair. Techniques that I use to apply the styling products are mentioned in this post. Once gel is applied, I leave my hair alone!! :-p I don’t touch it at all till it dries completely. If I touch or mess my hair before it is dry, that is the sure shot way to infuse […]

I have styled my hair on my own few times after the haircut…and I like the cut a lot… Most of the stringy and looser damaged ends are gone..I am happier than ever!! However one fine day, before the hair cut, I forced my sleepy bro to come out and click pics of my hair. It was already darkening and he was sleep deprived…I had 10 specifications to add….I wanted my curls to show…I wanted my skin not to show ( I had the worst breakout ever!! I don’t even remember the last time my skin had broken out like this!!I didn’t want it to show).. The wind was blowing and I am not at a poser!! 🙁 Well, as he patiently played around with the camera settings, me […]

DIY Deep Conditioning Idea for Curlies Living in Hostels

Hello Curlies!! I often get asked by many young curlies staying in hostels to give simple DIY deep conditioning ideas.   I am  in hostel… do not have multiple kitchen ingredients at my disposal and above all, do not have a blender or mixie to create a smooth blend Hmm… I can understand that….to be frank, even though I have all this as one-step distance from my couch, I am too lazy to pick up 2-3 ingredients, blend them and then apply!! So, more often than not, I end up doing deep conditioning with the most simple and ready-to-apply ingredients. So here is the quick tip: Choose ONE ingredient which BLENDs easily using bowl and spoon APPLY all over your hair WRAP in plastic cover RINSE off Makes sense? Umm.. lemme explain..I apply one of these packs: DIY Curd Hair Pack: Take Curd, quickly blend it in a bowl and apply. […]
