Review: Giovanni Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo (Eco Chic Technology)

If you have been following me for sometime, you might already know that Giovanni products are my most favourite!! However, I have never reviewed any of their shampoos or conditioners till date. Now I feel that I am not doing justice to my fav product line.. so here I am starting to take up and write reviews for at least some of the Giovanni products.

I do not have many shampoo reviews…In fact, I have reviewed only one shampoo ever and it is the WOW 10 in 1 Miracle shampoo. You do need to know my review on more shampoos. So here you go.

Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo (Eco Chic Technology) – Review

Price:

Rs. 595 for 250ml

Availability:

Easily available online at Amazon & Flipkart and in H&G stores:

CG Friendly:

Yes. It does not contain any sulfates or harsh chemicals. Is totally safe to use if you follow pure Curly Girl Method.

Ingredients:

This shampoo is USDA certified Organic (this is a total thumbs up for me!!). 100% vegetarian and is not tested on animals.

It is sulfate free and has no parabens or dye added.

First five ingredients: Aqua (Purified water), Sodium Laurayl Sarcosinate (no, it is not a sulfate!! It is a much milder surfactant ~ cleanser), Cocamidopropyl betaine (mild surfactant ~ cleanser), Sodium Cacoamphoacetate (conditioning agent), Lauryl Glucoside (mild surfactant)

The shampoo is infused with a lot many botanical extracts. Though those are all towards the end of the list so won’t really be dominating in the product. Read this post regarding the ingredients listing of any product.

Packaging:

It comes in the standard “Eco chic” variants packaging. It has a rectangular translucent plastic bottle which is white in color. Sturdy, travel-friendly and being translucent, it is easy to check the amount of product remaining.Has a flip open type of cap. Easy to travel with.

Consistency:

Thick and Creamy.

This shampoo is not watery at all. Rather it is towards thicker side. I usually dilute this and then apply on my scalp. It spreads better that way and is used more efficiently. Being thick makes it long lasting since we need only little for each wash.

Fragrance:

It has a pleasant and fresh fragrance. Not at all over powering.

My Experience:

Lemme dive into points straight up!!! And give you the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • This is a super mild shampoo
  • Yet very efficient in cleansing
  • Lathers ever so mildly
  • Infused with so may botanical extracts
  • Sulfate free as well as Paraben free
  • USDA approved Organic
  • Does not strip hair of its natural oils
  • Doesn’t dry out hair
  • Very little is enough for each wash. so it lasts longer
  • Has a thick consistency and easily dilutes
  • Does not cause scalp flaking or irritationWould surely suit sensitive scalp
  • Comparatively easily available in India
  • Not very costly
  • Can use for our kids without any worries. I use this for my son all the time

Cons:

  • I don’t really find any con with this shampoo

This is one of the best sulfate free shampoos that I have used. If you do not really see a Rs. 600 tag as too high, I would surely recommend you to buy this variant of the the Giovanni sulfate free shampoo. Even if you are on a budget, I would ask you to save up and get this shampoo.

If you are making the switch from sulfates to non-sulfates, please take my word and use this as the switch shampoo. I know there are few shampoos that cost less than this…but even those are in the range of 350-400. BUT, if you splurge a little more and get this one for 595, I promise you would not regret.

Let me explain the logic behind this….. Initially when you switch to sulfate-free shampoo, the scalp goes for a toss (well that’s a known fact!)…But from my experience, family & friend’s experience and so many of my readers’ experience, I have understood that, what shampoo we use for the switch, has a direct affect on our adjusting period. If you go for a cheap and not-so-sure kind of shampoo, we might be risking scalp issues. So, even if you go for a cheap-y conditioner, I suggest you to splurge on a good shampoo, at least initially till your scalp adjusts to the no-sulfate regimen. At the end, healthy hair is directly related to healthy scalp!

This will surely prevent any scalp reactions or issues and also shorten the ‘adjusting period’ efficiently.
