Review: MamaEarth Bhringraj and Amla Hair Mask for Curly/Wavy Hair

Mamaearth Bhringraj Hair Mask is one of the masks that I have been wanting to try for sometime now. In fact I have the other 2 – Onion and Argan hair masks on my list too.

Hair masks are a must have in curly and wavy hair care. In general curly and wavy hair are very dry. Additionally, if you have been not doing any active hair care, then hair mask is where you should start. Just like me!!

Let’s dive into the review straight away.

Curly Girl Friendly?

Yes. it is silicone-free.

General Musings

I haven’t cared for my hair in over an year now. Finally, I have been starting to get back to a set hair care routine. Instead of bingeing on all the products that I can see, I am starting to try one product at a time and see if it works.

First on my list was Mamaearth, as it has FDA approved products which are dermatologically tested and also Made Safe certified means the products are safe to be used. I did not wanna be testing shampoos first and I wanted something stronger than just a conditioner (since my hair was starving moisture), I chose their Hair Mask.

About the Product:

Bhringraj and amla are considered super good for the hair – soften the hair, make it stronger, blacker and reduce hair fall. Well, that is more when it is used directly in its natural state. This product contains less of these extracts, so I am not sure how much would it help with that.

Price

Rs.599 for 200g ~ it would last for at least 15-20 uses. So it makes it worth.

Packaging

Mamaearth Bhringraj hair mask comes in a round, white plastic tub with a screw type lid. It further has a tight pull-out lid to keep the product from spilling. The print and look of the package is the standard-mamaearth print in green and white dominating overall. Nothing fancy about the packaging but it is not-so-travel-friendly.

Consistency & Slip & Fragrance:

This hair mask has a thick consistency. However the slip is very good.

It has a very…very veryyy strong fragrance, which is very strong and pungent. I am usually okay with fragrances. However, this is too strong even for my liking. If you are sensitive to strong fragrances, you should really skip buying this one.

(If you are a South Indian, remember there was this shampoo called ‘Chik’? This mask smells exactly like that!!)

Usage & Review:

The hair mask spreads very easily on wet hair and almost melts into it. When you see the product, it feels as if it might not be easy to use it, however once it touches wet hair, it has a good slip and covers the strands well.

I need 3 dollops to cover all my hair. I divide my hair into small small sections and coat each section with the mask till it feels slippery and super soft and then I twist the hair around my finger to make it smooth and move to the next section.

I let the hair mask stay on my hair for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off. While rinsing off, in some of the product in my hair and skip leave in and I style with a gel.

I have been using this hair mask for about a month now. When I started, my hair was all dry and dehydrated. By the 5th use, my hair feels visibly softer to the touch. The dry ends feel hydrated too.

The product claim is, “For Intense Hair Treatment. Deep Conditions Hair. Suitable for Treated Hair.” It does give an intense treatment and I feel it would totally help keeping treated hair conditioned.

Overall, I am happy with the product’s results. If only they would reduce the fragrance of this product, it would surely be great!

Ingredients List

The first 5 ingredients on the Ingredients List are the ones that make the most of the product, so all the ‘extracts’ in the list which come after number #5 on the list would be present only in minor portions. Still better than chemical loaded products, I feel. However, the top 5 ingredients of this product are highly conditioning and softening agents. I like this list of ingredients a lot.

Aqua, Brassica Alcohol ~ fatty alcohol for moisturizing and softening the hair), Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine ~ Conditioning agent, lubricates the hair, Caprylic/Capric Extract ~ emollient (hair softening agent), helps retain shine and kind of smoothens the hair surface, Cetostearyl Alcohol ~ emulsifier and an emollient. So it helps keep the product together as well as softens the hair, Cetearyl Alcohol ~ emulsifier and an emollient,

Coconut Oil, Behentrimonium Chloride, Bhringraj Extract, Amla Extract, Brahmi Extract, Methi Extract, Shikaki Extract, Manjistha Extract, Neem Extract, Nagarmotha Extract, Yasthimadhu Extract, Dhatura Extract, Gurhal Extract, Jatamansi Extract, Beheda Extract, Gunja Extract, Heena Extract, Cow Milk, Cedarwood Oil, Rosemary Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Alumina, Sodium Hexametaposphate, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Chlorophyll Extract.
